You may recognize artist Andy Warhol’s works when it comes to his pop-art versions of soup cans and Marilyn Monroe. But did you know the Slovakian artist put in a bid to paint the Tacoma Dome? 30 years later, Warhol’s “Tacoma Flowers” collection is coming to the Tacoma Art Museum. And a renewed interest in having a Warhol on the Dome is in the air! Come see what it’s all about.

Flowers for Tacoma reveals a softer, more intimate side of the artist and captures Warhol’s fascination with the fragility and beauty of flowers through more than 100 of the icon’s lithographs, screen prints, sketches, and paintings, including his original submission for the Tacoma Dome, according to the Tacoma Art Museum’s website.

Plus, a group of advocates called “Citizens to Install Andy Warhol’s Flower on the Tacoma Dome” is excited about the possibility of getting an original Andy Warhol design on the Tacoma Dome in the near future. According to their Facebook Page, “interest has been gaining momentum with the City of Tacoma’s arts administrator Amy McBride actively corresponding with the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and the Warhol Foundation in New York.”

The Tacoma Art Museum will be displaying Andy Warhol’s works from Saturday, November 3 through Sunday, February 10, 2013.

Plus, Tacoma Art Museum has partnered with Tacoma’s The Harmon Brewery on a Warhol-inspired beer called Hop Art Ale! The Museum invites you to come in for taste at the exhibition opening on November 3. The beer will be for sale both in The Tacoma Art Museum’s cafe and at the Harmon.
